Adani could spend $10bn on two data centers in India - report

Targets an initial 2GW capacity, could expand portfolio to 10GW.

Adani Group is planning to spend an additional $10 billion on two 1GW data centers in India, it has been reported.

The Indian conglomerate’s billionaire owner, Gautam Adani, wants to capitalize on the AI boom, according to a report from Bloomberg.

Sites in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu have been identified as possible locations, the report said, citing sources with knowledge of the company’s plans. Discussions are already underway with landowners, it added. It is thought that Adani would eventually like to grow its data center portfolio to 10GW, and believes that it can secure lucrative contracts with government departments.

Adani operates across a wide range of business sectors, including power, mining, and infrastructure.

Like many large companies, it has taken a growing interest in data centers over recent months, and in January announced a plan to invest $6bn in data center infrastructure in Maharashtra, India, over the next decade. It plans to add an additional 1GW capacity in the state.

It also has a joint venture with EdgeConneX, AdaniConneX, which operates data centers across India. Last year, it raised $1.44 billion to fund growth plans.
