Digital Edge announces expansion plans in Japan, Philippines

Data centre operator Digital Edge announced two major expansion plans to enhance the connectivity options offered within its data centres across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. While one entails a partnership with BBIX, the other pertains to the launch of its Edge Peering Internet Exchange (EPIX) in Manila, Philippines.

Expanding footprint across Japan

Digital Edge is set to collaborate with BBIX, a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp to provide Open Connectivity eXchange (OCX) to customers in Osaka, Japan. As a cloud-based network service provided by BBIX, OCX is said to provide secure, fast and flexible connections to cloud services and data centres when needed. OCX is currently available in three other Digital Edge data centres in Tokyo and Osaka.

Under the business partnership agreement, BBIX will set up a new OCX connection point at Digital Edge’s OSA1 data centre in Osaka. With the new addition, not only will customers at the OSA1 data centre get more connectivity options, it also strengthens the seamless virtual campus between multiple Digital Edge sites. This new connection point will launch officially on 1st November 2024.

Plans unfold in Philippines

Digital Edge also expanded its services and launched its Edge Peering Internet Exchange (EPIX) at its NARRA1 data centre in Manila. EPIX is a high-speed, carrier-neutral Internet exchange that allows carriers, ISPs, content providers, and enterprises to quickly and affordably exchange IP traffic. With this new expansion, EPIX service will now be available to customers in Jakarta and Manila, further enhancing its peering and connectivity options across Southeast Asia.

Digital Edge is significantly expanding its connectivity services in Asia Pacific through expansion efforts in Japan and Philippines, strengthening its commitment to providing advanced connectivity solutions across the region.
