Vertical Data Signs Definitive Agreement to Acquire 4.5 MW Swedish Data Center Site with Plans for 100 MW AI Expansion

Vertical Data Inc. has entered into a definitive purchase agreement to acquire an existing industrial data center site in Central Sweden, marking the company's first move to expand its data center footprint beyond the United States as it seeks to capitalize on growing demand for AI infrastructure in Europe.

The Las Vegas-based AI infrastructure company said the proposed acquisition, executed under its majority-owned subsidiary Vertical Data Nordic AB, covers a site with 4.5 MW of existing power capacity in the Sollefteå Municipality. If the transaction proceeds, Vertical Data intends to continue pursuing an application to increase total power capacity to as much as 100 MW for the buildout of an AI data center facility.

Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Deven Soni described the agreement as a strategic opportunity, saying the site benefits from renewable hydroelectric power and support from a local government that is actively encouraging data center development. Soni added that the project is one of several in the company's active conversion pipeline, which represents more than 250 MW of global data center opportunities that would involve transforming existing industrial sites into institutional-grade AI data centers.

Central Sweden has emerged as an increasingly attractive location for large-scale data center development, owing to its cool climate, proximity to renewable power generation and access to fiber and transportation infrastructure. The Sollefteå Municipality has publicly stated that the Hamre Industrial Park, where the property is located, is connected to as much as 500 MW of available grid capacity. The power capacity application remains subject to applicable utility, regulatory and technical processes and approvals.

Vertical Data and Vertical Data Nordic AB are now focused on satisfying the remaining conditions to closing and said they will continue to approach the project with diligence and discipline. Site requirements, development costs, customer demand and financing needs will be assessed upon closing, which is anticipated within the next several weeks. Completion of the transaction remains subject to financing, corporate approvals, applicable regulatory clearances and other customary and transaction-specific closing conditions.

The deal underscores a broader trend of AI infrastructure companies seeking to repurpose existing industrial sites in power-rich regions of Europe, where access to renewable energy and grid capacity has become a key competitive advantage for data center operators. Vertical Data operates through three platforms: VerticalData.io, which provides enterprise GPU provisioning and managed infrastructure; GPUfinancing.com, which arranges structured financing for GPU deployments; and Vertical Edge, which holds equity in the data centers the company sources, develops, leases and manages.
