US Signal, a national provider of network, data center and cloud infrastructure, has acquired a 63,000-square-foot data center in Hillsboro, Oregon, marking the company's first owned facility in the Portland metropolitan area and deepening its presence in one of the most supply-constrained data center markets in the United States. The acquisition adds to US Signal's existing Oregon footprint in Bend and extends its nationwide network of 17 data centers.
The facility, located within an existing industrial park, currently offers approximately 14,000 square feet of data hall space and 4.5 megawatts of on-site power, with room for further capacity expansion. The deal lands in a market where availability is exceptionally scarce: data center vacancy in Hillsboro was estimated at roughly 0.2% during the first half of 2026, underscoring the difficulty tenants face in securing space across the Portland metro area.
US Signal said the site will allow it to expand colocation capacity, connect the facility to its fiber network and deploy its OpenCloud infrastructure across the Pacific Northwest. The company's distributed model places infrastructure close to the businesses it serves, linking local facilities to its broader connectivity and cloud platform. "Hillsboro gives us a way to grow in a market where available capacity is extremely limited," said John White, Chief Operating Officer of US Signal. "We're bringing an existing facility into our network and building on the approach we've taken in other communities: data centers sized for the markets they serve, with the connectivity and services customers need to grow."
The purchase is part of a wider growth program backed by owner Igneo Infrastructure Partners, which manages €30.5 billion on behalf of clients globally and invests in essential infrastructure across energy, waste and water, transport and digital infrastructure in Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand. "US Signal's network of data centers and fiber connectivity gives customers access to infrastructure close to where they operate, backed by a broader cloud and connectivity platform," said Michael Ryder, Partner and Co-Head of North America at Igneo Infrastructure Partners. "The Hillsboro investment extends that model into the Portland metro area through an existing facility with room to grow."
For US Signal, the acquisition represents a measured entry into a market where new supply is difficult to deliver, and it reflects a broader industry trend of operators pursuing existing facilities with expansion potential rather than waiting on greenfield construction in constrained regions. Bringing the Hillsboro site onto its fiber and cloud platform should allow the company to capture demand from enterprises and latency-sensitive workloads in the Pacific Northwest while scaling capacity incrementally as customer requirements grow.
