Terra Innovatum Signs LOI to Deploy Up to 8MWe Nuclear Microreactors at Waiken ILW Data Center in Brazil

Nuclear microreactor developer Terra Innovatum Global has entered a non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) with Latin American media group Waiken ILW to deploy its SOLO micro-modular reactor at data center sites in Jaguariúna, Brazil. The agreement marks the company’s first commercial initiative in the Latin American market and is expected to provide up to 8MWe of behind-the-meter capacity through multiple SOLO units.

Each SOLO reactor is a 1MWe and 4MWth microreactor that, according to the company, can scale to 1GW or more. First conceptualized in 2018 and developed over six years, the system supports both LEU+ and HALEU fuel and can deliver electricity, heat, and other applications, including desalination, industrial process heat, and medical radioisotope production. The microreactors will power data center sites supporting DirecTV Latin America and Sky Brasil broadcasting and streaming services.

Waiken ILW, part of the Argentinian holding company Werthein Group, operates pay TV, streaming, connectivity, and content businesses across Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and other Latin American and Caribbean markets. “This initiative aims to provide reliable, behind-the-meter clean energy solutions for Waiken ILW’s datacenters while serving as a proof of concept for other long-term, energy-intensive operations within the Waiken ILW group of companies,” said Alessandro Petruzzi, co-founder and CEO of Terra Innovatum Global. “This alliance will strengthen our infrastructure by delivering reliable, behind-the-meter clean energy to DirecTV’s and Sky’s broadcasting data centers, paving the way for a cleaner, more resilient, and self-sustaining energy future across Argentina, Brazil, and the broader region,” added Carlos Magariños, chief of Global and Regulatory Strategy at Waiken ILW.

The agreement builds on Terra Innovatum’s growing portfolio of behind-the-meter nuclear deals. In November 2025, the Italian-headquartered firm signed an LOI with IT services and consulting firm Uvatio to initiate a 1MWe pilot project, with the option to expand to 100MWe to support Uvatio’s data center power demands. Across the broader industry, several microreactor developers have recently inked deals with data center operators. In August 2025, US firm Radiant signed an agreement with Equinix to purchase 20 microreactors for US operations. Earlier in 2025, Last Energy revealed plans to construct 30 microreactors in Texas to serve the US data center market, on a 200-acre site in Haskell County.

DirecTV, originally launched in 1994 by Hughes Electronics and United States Satellite Broadcasting, has undergone multiple acquisitions involving News Corporation, Liberty Media, and AT&T. Investment firm TPG acquired the entirety of DirecTV in a deal that closed in 2025. In the US, DirecTV operates data centers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Washington, and Minnesota. The new LOI represents Terra Innovatum’s first commercial footprint in Latin America and underscores the growing interest in small-scale nuclear solutions for energy-intensive data center operations across the region.
