Sunway Construction Group Bhd has secured a significant construction contract worth RM1.74 billion to build a hyperscale data centre in Serendah, Selangor, underscoring the accelerating pace of digital infrastructure development in Malaysia and the broader Southeast Asian region.
The group's wholly-owned subsidiary, Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd, entered into the agreement with an international hyperscaler, according to a stock exchange filing. The scope of work encompasses the core and shell structures, campus infrastructure, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing fit-out of the facility. The project is scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026 and is expected to be completed within four years.
Sunway Construction noted that the project is not expected to have any immediate material effect on earnings per share, net assets per share, or gearing for the financial year ending 2026. However, the group said that barring any unforeseen circumstances, the contract is expected to contribute positively to its earnings from the financial year ending 2026 onwards.
The award reflects the growing demand for hyperscale data centre capacity across Southeast Asia, as global cloud and technology companies expand their infrastructure footprints in the region. Malaysia has emerged as a key destination for such investments, driven by supportive government policies, competitive land and power costs, and strategic geographic positioning. The Serendah project adds to the country's rapidly expanding data centre pipeline and signals continued confidence from international hyperscalers in the local construction and engineering ecosystem.
