Singapore's STT GDC Eyes US$2.4 Billion Loan in AI Debt Financing Push

By: IDCNOVARegion: Southeast Asia
Singapore-based data center operator STT GDC is reportedly seeking a US$2.4 billion loan, adding to a growing wave of debt financing tied to artificial intelligence infrastructure across Asia, according to Bloomberg.

The move underscores the intensifying capital demands facing data center operators as they race to build out capacity for AI workloads. Hyperscalers and their partners are committing record sums to computing infrastructure, and debt markets have become an increasingly important source of funding for these capital-intensive projects.

STT GDC, backed by Singapore state investor Temasek, has been expanding its regional footprint amid surging demand for cloud and AI-ready data center capacity across Southeast Asia. The reported loan would rank among the larger financing packages raised by an Asian data center operator and reflects broader investor appetite for digital infrastructure assets.

The financing comes as data center developers globally tap syndicated loans, bonds and project finance to fund construction pipelines that can run into the billions of dollars. Lenders have shown willingness to underwrite such deals given the long-term contracted revenue often underpinning hyperscale facilities, though rising interest rates have made structuring and pricing more complex.

For STT GDC, the fresh capital would support continued expansion in key markets including Singapore, India and other parts of Asia, where demand for AI-capable infrastructure is outpacing supply. The company has not publicly commented on the reported loan.
