SECI Signs MoU to Supply Clean Energy to HyperVault's Telangana Data Centres

Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has signed a memorandum of understanding with HyperVault AI Data Center Limited (HADL) to supply renewable energy to the company's upcoming data centre facilities in Telangana, in a move that underscores the growing convergence of India's clean energy ambitions and its rapidly expanding digital infrastructure footprint.

Under the agreement, SECI will explore the development of captive renewable energy projects and assist with land identification and transmission connectivity to facilitate reliable power supply to HyperVault's data centre facilities. The partnership reflects a broader industry trend in which data centre operators are increasingly seeking dedicated clean energy arrangements to manage rising electricity costs and meet sustainability commitments, as power availability becomes a critical factor in site selection and operational planning.

The MoU comes amid a period of heightened activity for SECI on multiple renewable energy fronts. In September 2026, the state-owned agency issued a request for proposals to lease two parcels of agricultural land in the National Capital Territory of Delhi for developing agri-photovoltaic power plants, with selection to be conducted through a competitive bidding process and a bid submission deadline set for October 7, 2026. Separately, SECI signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited for the supply of 50 MW of solar power integrated with a battery energy storage system. That project is expected to generate around 135 million units of electricity annually and reduce carbon emissions by more than 96 tonnes per year.

For India's data centre sector, the agreement signals a maturing approach to energy procurement in which operators are no longer passive consumers of grid power but active participants in the development of captive renewable generation. As hyperscale and AI-driven workloads drive up power density and total consumption, securing long-term clean energy supply through arrangements such as captive projects and dedicated PPAs is becoming a strategic imperative rather than a discretionary choice. The involvement of a government-backed entity like SECI lends additional credibility and scale to such efforts, potentially accelerating the pace at which renewable-powered data centre capacity can be brought online in Telangana and beyond.
