Oracle to Launch Public Environmental Dashboard for New Mexico Hyperscale Data Center

Oracle has announced plans to launch a public environmental monitoring dashboard for Project Jupiter, its hyperscale AI data center campus under construction in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, marking a significant step toward transparency amid growing scrutiny over the environmental footprint of large-scale data center developments.

The dashboard will provide community members with access to onsite environmental data including air quality, noise levels, heat and emissions output, light impact, and water consumption once the facility becomes operational. The move comes after local groups and politicians raised objections to the project over concerns about its environmental impact, prompting Oracle to reassess both its power strategy and its community engagement approach.

The 1,400-acre campus is designed to deliver large-scale cloud and AI computing infrastructure. Earlier this year, Oracle shifted the project's power strategy from an initial plan to use gas turbines and diesel generators to Bloom Energy's low-emissions, near-zero-water-consumption fuel cell technology. Last week, the company issued a request for proposals for the development of 2 GW of new renewable energy in New Mexico to help match the project's energy usage with clean power sources.

Mahesh Thiagarajan, executive vice president of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, emphasized the company's commitment to accountability, stating that being a good neighbor means protecting land, water, and air while investing in the community and creating well-paying jobs. He noted that trust is earned through transparency and that the program represents one way Oracle will provide direct answers, follow through on environmental commitments, and invite the community into the process.

In addition to the dashboard, Project Jupiter will commission twice-yearly assessments conducted by an independent third-party expert, with reports comparing the project's performance against baseline environmental conditions and relevant industry standards and certifications. Both the dashboard and the assessment reports will be launched after the data centers become operational.

Oracle also highlighted the project's economic contributions, noting that it is expected to deliver billions in long-term economic impact to New Mexico and Doña Ana County. The project is on pace to create more than 7,000 construction jobs and 1,500 ongoing positions once construction is complete. Close to 1,000 New Mexico residents are currently working onsite, and the project has generated nearly $100 million in state and local tax revenue.

The company has committed $50 million to repair, upgrade, and improve local water systems, $360 million in direct support for schools, infrastructure, and local services, and $6.9 million for workforce development and community organizations. Additionally, Project Jupiter will partner with crop intelligence company Arable to help New Mexico farmers use real-time field data for more efficient irrigation, conserving approximately 21 million gallons annually in the Rio Grande-Bravo watershed — more water than the data center's cooling and fuel-cell systems consume.

The initiative reflects a broader industry trend in which hyperscale data center operators are increasingly expected to demonstrate environmental accountability as AI-driven computing demand accelerates across the United States.
