NTT Data Signs 24MW Wind PPA with Engie in UK as Part of Broader European Energy Partnership

By: IDCNOVARegion: East Asia
Japanese technology and data center operator NTT Data has signed a corporate power purchase agreement (cPPA) with French energy giant Engie, securing 24 megawatts of wind energy from a farm in South Wales to power its data center portfolio. The deal is part of a larger strategic partnership that also includes working agreements in Germany and the Netherlands, underscoring the growing convergence between digital infrastructure expansion and corporate decarbonization goals.

The cPPA covers power supply from a 24MW onshore wind farm in South Wales through September 2030. According to the companies, the partnership goes beyond a traditional supplier relationship, establishing a long-term framework for renewable energy procurement, power supply, and integrated energy solutions across select priority markets. NTT Data, headquartered in Tokyo, operates a global network of data centers and has been under increasing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint amid rapid AI-driven demand growth.

“This cPPA is the result of a deep understanding of NTT Data’s needs, demonstrating how a collaborative approach can deliver innovative solutions and sustainable infrastructure to support long-term growth and decarbonization ambitions,” said Miya Paolucci, CEO of Engie UK. Engie, based in Paris, is one of the world’s largest renewable energy operators with more than 57GW of total installed renewable and battery storage capacity, and has signed numerous similar deals with data center firms in recent years.

The agreement reflects a broader trend in the data center industry, where hyperscale operators and colocation providers are locking in long-term renewable energy contracts to meet both regulatory requirements and customer expectations. NTT Data’s Chief Sustainability Officer David Costa emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, stating: “AI is transforming every industry, and long-term success depends on ensuring that AI is sustainable. Sustainability is both a competitive differentiator and a value creator. This partnership with Engie reflects our belief that energy transition and AI transformation must advance together, enabling us to innovate and scale responsibly while delivering long-term value for our clients and society.”

While specific details on the German and Dutch working agreements were not disclosed, the multi-country nature of the partnership signals NTT Data’s intent to secure clean power across its European footprint. The deal comes shortly after Engie expanded a carbon-free energy partnership with Google in Germany until 2030, highlighting the company’s growing role in powering the digital economy.
