Leidos, CoreWeave Team Up to Deliver Secure Sovereign AI Cloud for U.S. Intelligence and Defense Missions

Leidos, a leader in national security mission solutions, and CoreWeave, known as The Essential Cloud for AI, have announced a collaboration to deliver secure, sovereign AI cloud services tailored to the unique requirements of the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) and the Department of War (DoW). The partnership is designed to help federal agencies build, train, deploy, and operate artificial intelligence at mission scale, addressing what both companies describe as a critical inflection point in national security.

The initiative combines Leidos' decades of experience in delivering mission-critical systems for the U.S. government with CoreWeave's AI-native cloud platform, which is already trusted by leading AI builders. Together, the companies aim to turn AI into an operational advantage for the United States, particularly as AI-driven analysis becomes a defining competitive edge in intelligence and defense operations. The collaboration comes at a time when secure AI cloud capacity dedicated to government workloads has emerged as a top federal priority.

Under the planned framework, CoreWeave intends to offer its AI-native cloud platform—featuring purpose-built infrastructure, advanced networking, AI-optimized storage, and cloud-native orchestration for training and inference workloads—within Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF)-accredited data centers. Leidos will lead mission integration, secure architecture accreditation support, cyber operations, data engineering, and customer delivery for intelligence and defense programs. The envisioned capabilities include classified AI cloud services for model training and monitoring, intelligence analyst augmentation for multi-source fusion and imagery analysis, cyber AI ranges for autonomous defense testing, synthetic data generation and simulation environments, and edge-to-cloud AI orchestration connecting centralized platforms with forward-deployed and tactical environments.

The companies state that all combined capabilities will be designed with federal security controls, auditability, model governance, data protection, and mission continuity as foundational requirements. Compute deployment and architecture will be determined by mission needs and federal appropriation priorities. The collaboration builds on the recent launch of CoreWeave Federal, a dedicated business unit focused on delivering AI cloud services to U.S. government agencies and the Defense Industrial Base.

Jason O'Connor, president of Leidos Intelligence, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, noting that combining CoreWeave's AI cloud platform with Leidos' mission-grade federal integration accelerates delivery for IC and DoW priorities and expands the nation's AI superiority. Sachin Jain, chief operating officer of CoreWeave, added that artificial intelligence is becoming foundational to the nation and that federal teams need secure, scalable platforms to operationalize it. He highlighted CoreWeave's track record of powering complex workloads for leading AI organizations and expressed the intent to extend those capabilities to highly secure government environments.

Industry observers view the collaboration as a significant step toward unifying fragmented AI infrastructure across multiple national security domains. By aligning secure cloud architecture with mission-specific requirements, the partnership could set a precedent for how sovereign AI compute is delivered in classified environments, potentially influencing future federal procurement and deployment strategies.
