South Korean industrial giants LS Electric and LG Uplus have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop direct-current (DC) power infrastructure tailored for AI data centers, with an initial focus on supporting Nvidia’s Vera Rubin platform. The partnership aims to address the growing energy demands of AI workloads by advancing high-voltage DC (HVDC) power delivery systems that reduce energy loss and improve efficiency.
Under the agreement, the two companies will collaborate on demonstrating and standardizing an 800V DC power architecture designed specifically for Nvidia’s Vera Rubin environment. Nvidia’s 800V DC architecture, announced in October 2025, delivers power directly to server racks via a high-voltage DC system, significantly cutting power loss and enabling optimization of conversion equipment and cabling. LS Electric will develop DC power solutions optimized for AI data centers, while LG Uplus will contribute operational power data from its existing data centers and support a proof-of-concept environment to validate the solutions.
The initiative is part of a broader industry push toward 800V DC infrastructure. Nvidia previously disclosed that 20 companies, including CoreWeave, Lambda, Nebius, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and Together AI, are designing data centers to support the new power architecture. Foxconn’s 40MW Kaohsiung-1 data center in Taiwan is also using 800V DC, underscoring the technology's growing traction in the sector.
This marks LS Electric’s second major DC power announcement this month. Earlier in July, the company partnered with German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon to collaborate on technologies aimed at enhancing energy efficiency, system performance, and scalability in next-generation power infrastructure. The dual partnerships highlight LS Electric’s strategic focus on capturing the AI data center power market, which is increasingly shifting toward DC-based systems to handle the high-density loads required by advanced GPU clusters.
LG Uplus, a mobile network operator owned by LG Corporation and South Korea’s second-largest wireless carrier, brings deep operational expertise from managing real-world data center environments. By combining LS Electric’s power engineering capabilities with LG Uplus’s operational data, the partnership is positioned to deliver integrated solutions that could set new industry standards for AI data center power delivery.
