Hudson River Trading Taps CoreWeave for AI Research Platform in Multi-Billion-Dollar Deal

By: IDCNOVARegion: North America
Quantitative trading firm Hudson River Trading (HRT) has signed a multi-year agreement to use CoreWeave's AI cloud infrastructure for its research platform, marking another major win for the neocloud provider in the financial services sector.

Under the deal, HRT will leverage Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 compute via CoreWeave's cloud for AI-powered trading research and model development. The firm will also utilize Nvidia HGX B200 GPU systems as part of the arrangement. While the contract has been described as a multi-billion-dollar agreement, the exact value has not been disclosed.

The partnership underscores the growing reliance of quantitative trading firms on specialized AI cloud infrastructure to support increasingly compute-intensive research workloads. For HRT, which operates in one of the most performance-critical environments in finance, access to cutting-edge GPU technology is essential to maintaining a competitive edge in algorithmic trading and machine learning research.

"As we scale our AI and machine learning research, the AI platform we build on matters as much as the models we build," said Kevin Lee, head of R&D at HRT. "We chose CoreWeave because they understand what it takes to run AI in demanding production environments, and because we're confident they'll scale alongside us as our ambitions do. Giving our researchers access to the latest AI technology is exactly what lets a research team like ours push further, faster."

CoreWeave's chief revenue officer Jon Jones highlighted the significance of the financial services sector as a proving ground for AI technologies. "Financial services is one of the most demanding proving grounds for AI. HRT is one of the companies setting the standard for what it means to bring AI into production in a performance-critical environment. CoreWeave is built to be the cloud that serious AI workloads run on, and this partnership reflects the trust that the world's most sophisticated organizations are placing in us," he said.

HRT is also a customer of neocloud provider Lambda, having signed on to use Nvidia HGX B200 systems earlier this year. The company cited its growing compute needs as a key motivator for both agreements, reflecting a broader trend among quantitative trading firms to secure dedicated AI infrastructure capacity.

The deal with CoreWeave follows a similar agreement with fellow quantitative trading firm IMC, which recently expanded its cloud contract with the neocloud provider for comparable use cases. Jane Street also secured $6 billion in AI cloud capacity from CoreWeave earlier this year, signaling a deepening relationship between the neocloud and the financial trading industry.

The series of agreements highlights how AI infrastructure providers are increasingly targeting financial services as a key growth vertical. As quantitative trading firms continue to expand their AI and machine learning capabilities, the demand for specialized, high-performance cloud computing resources is expected to intensify, positioning neocloud providers as critical partners in the evolution of algorithmic trading.
