Chinese technology giant Huawei has introduced four new infrastructure solutions tailored for AI data centers in Malaysia, targeting power supply, power protection, energy storage, and cooling. The launch took place at the Huawei Next-Gen Data Center Infrastructure Summit 2026, held on July 31 in Johor Bahru, according to a company statement released on Monday.
The announcement underscores the accelerating shift from traditional data centers to AI-optimized facilities across Southeast Asia. As AI workloads grow, operators face mounting pressure to support higher rack power densities, expanded electricity capacity, and more sophisticated thermal management. Huawei's portfolio is designed to address these challenges directly, offering modular and intelligent systems that can be deployed rapidly in hyperscale and colocation environments.
Among the key products unveiled were the PowerPOD 5.0, a prefabricated power system that leverages AI-enabled visualization and predictive maintenance to cut delivery time for data center power infrastructure from 60 days to just two weeks. The company also showcased the UPS5000-H-800k, a high-power-density uninterruptible power supply engineered for high-density AI computing environments. In addition, Huawei introduced the SmartLi 5.0, a modular energy storage solution featuring a cell-to-system protection design that supports capacity expansion without interrupting operations, alongside a Thermal Management Unit (TMU) that balances cooling performance with electricity consumption while using predictive maintenance to detect potential coolant issues before they disrupt operations.
Chong Chern Peng, Executive Vice President of Huawei Digital Power at Huawei Malaysia, said the rapid growth of AI workloads is transforming conventional data centers into AI data centers, requiring higher rack power densities, greater electricity capacity, and more advanced cooling capabilities. He added that Malaysia, particularly Johor, can strengthen its role as a regional data center hub, and that Huawei will continue building energy-efficient infrastructure to support the country's AI ambitions.
The summit also drew participation from key stakeholders across the regional digital infrastructure ecosystem, including Invest Johor, the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak, Eden Inc Bhd, DCD Technology, NTT Global Data Centers Holding Asia, Pekat Group, PLANMalaysia Johor, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, TM Nxera, CCIE Engineering, and Vantage Data Centers. Their presence highlights the growing collaboration between technology providers, government bodies, and utility operators in advancing Malaysia's position as a preferred destination for AI-ready data center investments.
Industry observers view Huawei's latest offerings as a strategic move to capture a larger share of the AI infrastructure market in Southeast Asia, where demand for high-performance computing and energy-efficient data center solutions is rising sharply. By integrating AI-driven management capabilities into power and cooling systems, the company aims to help operators reduce operational risks, lower total cost of ownership, and accelerate time-to-market for new capacity.
