Google Files to Expand LaGrange Data Center Campus with Second $1B Building

Google is pushing ahead with its data center expansion in rural Georgia, filing plans for a second building at its growing campus in LaGrange. The move underscores the tech giant’s continued investment in compute infrastructure to support cloud and AI workloads in the southeastern U.S.

KDC, acting on behalf of the property owner, submitted a development of regional impact application to Georgia’s State Department of Community Affairs for a project called PRL2. The application seeks approval for a 470,000-square-foot (43,665-square-meter) data center facility at 411 Pegasus Parkway, adjacent to the existing building already under construction on the site.

The new building carries an estimated value of $1 billion, with construction expected to run through 2029. While the filing hints at further expansion potential, it notes that “future phases remain speculative at this time.” The campus, located about 70 miles southwest of Atlanta in Troup County, occupies a former manufacturing site previously owned by plastics firm Jindal Films.

Google confirmed its involvement at the LaGrange site in April this year, and work is ongoing on the first building. That initial structure was originally targeted to deliver up to 50MW of capacity and go live by late 2026 or early 2027, with a long-term goal of reaching 400MW across the 270-acre campus. Thor Equities, which had been developing the site earlier, confirmed it is no longer involved in the project.

Beyond LaGrange, Google already operates a data center campus in Douglas County, near Atlanta, built in 2007 and expanded in 2015. The company is also developing in Monroe County, Georgia, where it purchased 950 acres in October 2025. Another 1.2GW project in Irwin County has been linked to Google but has not been officially announced. The expansion in LaGrange signals Google’s continued push to scale its hyperscale data center footprint in the region amid rising demand for cloud services and AI computing.
