China's Taiwanese cloud and AI infrastructure provider Konst has signed a lease agreement to take capacity at SM+’s upcoming SMX01 data center in Jakarta, marking the company’s entry into Southeast Asia’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure market. The facility, developed by LG Sinar Mas (LGSM) in partnership with SM+ Data Centers and Korea Investment Real Asset Management, is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The $300 million data center was first announced in September 2024, with construction beginning in March 2025. Upon completion, SMX01 will deliver a total capacity of 27MW, with an initial phase targeting 6MW. The facility is designed to support high-density AI workloads, offering up to 130kW per rack, a capability that underpins Konst’s plan to deploy GPU infrastructure at the site.
Under the terms of the agreement, Konst will deploy GPU clusters powered by SMX01’s high power density capabilities. GPU servers will be supplied by Giga Computing, a subsidiary of Gigabyte, while AI infrastructure service provider Raydian Cloud will manage cluster deployment and operations.
“Today marks a major milestone for Konst as we take the next step in expanding our AI infrastructure business into Southeast Asia,” said Ben Chang, co-founder and chairman of Konst, following the signing ceremony. “Indonesia is a key market for AI, and we are proud to work with SM+, LGSM, Giga Computing, and Raydian Cloud to build the next generation of AI data centers. This strong partnership is only the beginning.”
Ariawan, COO of LG Sinar Mas, emphasized the strategic importance of the deal as SMX01 approaches operational launch. “Establishing strategic partnerships with industry leaders like Konst is essential to fulfilling our commitment to deliver a world-class, AI-ready data center,” he said. “By combining LGSM’s end-to-end design, construction, and operations expertise with Konst’s proven capabilities, we are reinforcing our commitment to setting the standard for reliability and excellence in Indonesia’s digital infrastructure landscape.”
The lease positions Konst to tap into Jakarta, one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing data center hubs, as part of a broader regional expansion. Founded in 2024 and headquartered in Nangang, Taipei, Konst operates across GPU data center construction, GPU cloud services, bare-metal leasing, colocation, and AI infrastructure. Built on Nvidia hardware, the company’s network spans nine countries across three continents, with 42MW of operational and under-development capacity.
LG Sinar Mas is a 50:50 joint venture between LG CNS, a South Korean data center and IT services company, and SM+, the digital infrastructure and services unit of Indonesian conglomerate Sinar Mas. Jakarta-based SM+ owns and operates 25 data centers across Indonesia through its SM+ Data Centers division, representing nearly 40MW of operational and under-development IT load capacity, alongside its SM+ Technology Solutions arm, which provides IT services and systems integration.
Konst has also signaled further corporate developments, including plans to launch an initial public offering in 2027 and the creation of two new business units: the Token Business Unit, aimed at building Asia’s largest Token Factory, and the Compute Fund Division.
