US fuel cell developer Bloom Energy has introduced a new deployment platform designed to accelerate the time-to-power for data center operators, a segment that has become the company's largest customer base for its Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) systems. The new offering, named Power Connect, shifts the majority of installation work from the field to the factory, allowing systems to arrive on-site pre-connected, pre-wired, tested, and ready for deployment. According to the company, this approach reduces on-site power installation time by more than 40 percent while improving deployment consistency and accelerating commissioning.
The launch comes as data center operators face mounting pressure to secure reliable power quickly, particularly for AI-driven workloads that demand high-density computing around the clock. Bloom's SOFC technology converts fuel into electricity through an electrochemical reaction rather than combustion, a process the company says delivers higher efficiency and lower emissions compared to conventional generation. With Power Connect, Bloom aims to address one of the most critical bottlenecks in data center development: the lengthy timeline from project approval to actual power delivery.
“Power Connect is the latest innovation supporting our speed-to-power advantage,” said Joe Tavi, head of Bloom Energy's customer installation group. “It reflects how we're rethinking the entire power deployment process, moving complexity out of the field and into a controlled manufacturing process. By standardizing critical electrical integration, Bloom Power Connect creates a simpler, more repeatable installation model, helping customers move more quickly from project approval to electrons flowing.”
Bloom said the system will be manufactured and assembled in the US through its existing manufacturing network, reinforcing its domestic supply chain capabilities. The company has already secured significant agreements in the data center sector. Earlier this year, Bloom expanded a deal with cloud provider Oracle to supply up to 2.8GW of capacity, building on an initial 1.2GW agreement signed last year, with deployments currently underway and expected to continue into next year.
In addition to the Oracle partnership, Bloom has signed contracts with Equinix for deployments across 19 data centers, totaling more than 100MW of capacity, and with US utility American Electric Power for up to 1GW of SOFCs to power AI data centers off-grid. These deals underscore the growing role of fuel cell technology as a flexible, on-site power solution for data center operators seeking to bypass grid constraints and reduce project timelines.
Industry analysts note that the move reflects a broader trend toward modular, factory-assembled power infrastructure as data center developers look to standardize deployment and cut construction cycles. By reducing on-site complexity, Bloom's Power Connect platform could set a new benchmark for how power systems are integrated into data center projects, potentially influencing how other energy providers approach the market. As demand for AI compute continues to surge, the ability to deliver power faster is becoming a competitive differentiator, and Bloom's latest innovation positions the company to capture a larger share of this rapidly expanding segment.
