Vertiv Completes India's First Direct-to-Chip Liquid Cooling Deployment for 30 MW AI-Ready Capacity at CapitaLand's Mumbai Data Centre

By: IDCNOVARegion: South Asia
Vertiv has completed what the company describes as India's first direct-to-chip high-density liquid cooling deployment at CapitaLand India Trust's CLDC Mumbai 01 data centre in Airoli, Navi Mumbai, marking a significant milestone in the country's adoption of liquid cooling technology as data centre operators prepare for the escalating thermal demands of AI workloads. The project utilizes Vertiv's secondary fluid network system to support 30 MW of AI workloads for a hyperscale end customer.

The deployment represents a notable step forward for India's data centre industry, which has traditionally relied on air-cooling systems that face growing limitations as computing density rises. As AI and high-performance computing applications push rack densities beyond the practical thresholds of conventional cooling, operators are increasingly turning to liquid-based approaches to manage the intense heat generated by densely packed processors. Vertiv's closed-loop secondary fluid network system transports coolant from a facility's cooling infrastructure directly to the chip level, offering a more efficient and scalable solution for high-density environments.

To support the project's scale and enable future deployments, Vertiv developed a production facility capable of manufacturing customized technology loop skids in larger volumes. The facility was designed to meet stringent requirements for protecting sensitive cooling components from contamination. Vertiv worked closely with CapitaLand Investment, the owner and operator of CLDC Mumbai, to develop installation and commissioning procedures intended to minimize dust ingress into the technology loop during the installation of the secondary fluid network skids. After commissioning, Vertiv demonstrated technology-loop balancing using its SFN-Tab kits and conducted Level 4 testing at the data centre to validate system performance ahead of go-live.

"The CapitaLand Investment project, particularly the collaboration, helped us accelerate the development of our manufacturing and engineering capabilities, enabling us to support the growing demands of AI-ready digital infrastructure," said Subhasis Majumdar, managing director of Vertiv India. "As the Indian market advances towards high-density liquid cooling for hyperscale and data centre applications, we see meaningful growth potential and are well positioned to deliver the scale, expertise, and innovation required for these deployments," he added.

The project builds on the existing relationship between Vertiv and CapitaLand Investment, with both companies working together from design through commissioning. It also strengthens Vertiv India's engineering and manufacturing capabilities for large-scale liquid cooling deployments, positioning the company to capitalize on the accelerating shift toward liquid cooling across the region. Vertiv, headquartered in Westerville, Ohio, provides power, cooling, IT infrastructure and services for data centres, communication networks and commercial and industrial facilities, and operates in more than 130 countries.
