Indonesian conglomerate Salim Group has acquired Keppel Data Centres' ownership interest in the joint venture formerly known as IndoKeppel Data Centres, taking full control of the company and relaunching it as a standalone operator under the name IndoData Data Center. The transaction, completed in December, was announced publicly this week by the re-launched IndoData. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The move marks a significant shift for the venture, which was first established in 2018 when the two companies announced plans to develop a data center project in Bogor City, outside Jakarta. Originally slated for launch in 2020, the facility faced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic and eventually came online in 2022 with an initial 5MW phase at IndoKeppel Data Centre 1 (IKDC 1).
With Salim Group now as the sole owner, IndoData said it has secured up to 500MW of power capacity under contract with Indonesian state utility PLN. The company emphasized its commitment to supporting the country's rapidly expanding digital economy, stating on LinkedIn: "Our vision is to be the trusted partner for sustainable, reliable, and future-ready digital infrastructure—helping our customers scale quickly while supporting the continued growth of Indonesia's digital economy."
Ronald Setiawan, formerly director of IndoKeppel Data Centres and recently appointed managing director of IndoData, announced this week that an additional 6MW of IT load has been completed and delivered at the facility. "This built-to-suit expansion was developed for one of our existing hyperscale clients, reflecting their continued trust in IndoData's ability to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performance data center infrastructure," he said.
The acquisition underscores the growing strategic importance of Indonesia's data center market, which has attracted significant interest from both domestic conglomerates and international players. Salim Group, controlled by Anthoni Salim, also holds a stake in local operator DCI Indonesia. Through its Hong Kong-listed investment holding company First Pacific, the group controls Philippine telecom PLDT, giving it a broader footprint in Southeast Asian digital infrastructure.
Founded in 1972, Salim Group is one of Indonesia's largest conglomerates, with assets spanning Indofood, the world's largest instant noodle producer; car manufacturer Indomobil; Indomaret, the country's largest convenience store chain; and Bogasari, a major flour-milling operation. The company's entry into full ownership of IndoData signals its intent to play a more direct role in the region's data center sector, leveraging its substantial resources and local expertise to scale the business.
Industry observers note that the buyout reflects a broader trend of consolidation in Southeast Asia's data center market, as operators seek to strengthen their positions amid surging demand for cloud and AI-driven services. IndoData's secured power capacity of 500MW positions it as a significant player in the Indonesian market, where power availability remains a key constraint for large-scale digital infrastructure development.
