NVIDIA is deepening its involvement in the artificial intelligence data center ecosystem through a new strategic partnership with Cloverleaf Infrastructure, a company that specializes in providing power and site development services for AI-driven projects. The agreement, announced on August 21, is designed to accelerate the expansion of digital infrastructure across the United States, with NVIDIA taking a minority stake in the company as part of the deal.
Cloverleaf, founded in 2024 and backed by $300 million raised in its first year, functions as an intermediary between utility providers and data center developers, helping AI-focused facilities secure reliable electricity supply. The partnership reflects NVIDIA's broader strategy of moving beyond chip manufacturing into the financing and development of data centers that ultimately rely on its computing systems. Earlier this month, NVIDIA announced a $1.5 billion investment in SB Energy to support the PORTS-Pike campus, an OpenAI-linked 10-GW data center project in Pike County, Ohio.
Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, highlighted the importance of infrastructure in the AI era, stating that "AI is becoming infrastructure—the foundation for intelligence in every industry—and land, power and shell have become vital in the age of AI. Now is the time to scale the AI infrastructure that will power the next industrial revolution. We are securing long-lived infrastructure for NVIDIA compute so OpenAI can deploy the most productive AI factories that can be upgraded repeatedly with each new generation delivering more intelligence and better economics."
Under the new agreement, Cloverleaf will apply the NVIDIA DSX Platform to integrate site, power, cooling, computing, and facility decisions earlier in the design phase. The company says this will help customers "evaluate infrastructure tradeoffs and build AI factories that deliver more useful AI output within available power, water and grid constraints." The DSX infrastructure and software will also assist in optimizing energy use and computing capacity at operating data center sites.
Cloverleaf described the investment as enabling the company "to help its customers and utility partners meet increasing demand for accelerated computing." The two firms will work together "to advance the foundational infrastructure needed to support AI factory development," according to a company statement. Cloverleaf already maintains a substantial AI development pipeline and has delivered multiple gigawatt-scale projects to customers across North America.
David Berry, co-founder and CEO of Cloverleaf, emphasized the broader economic implications of the partnership. J.P. Morgan Securities LLC served as exclusive financial advisor, and Kirkland & Ellis LLP provided legal counsel to Cloverleaf in structuring the transaction. While the companies did not disclose financial terms, the Wall Street Journal reported that NVIDIA's investment is likely to reach up to several hundred million dollars. The partnership signals a growing trend of technology companies taking direct roles in energy and infrastructure projects to secure the resources needed for large-scale AI deployment.
