Centcore, the data center subsidiary of Florida-based technology company Mitesco, has announced plans to commercially deploy its Edge data center platform in the first quarter of 2027, marking a strategic push into decentralized computing infrastructure. The initiative comes amid growing community opposition to large-scale data centers, which are often criticized for their enormous energy consumption and environmental footprint.
The platform, named TC/DC, is designed as a network of small-format, low-power data center nodes intended for residential, rural, and small-business environments. According to Centcore CEO Brian Valania, prototype testing is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with commercial delivery following in early 2027. Valania estimates that the platform could scale to approximately 10,000 units within 18 to 24 months of launch.
“We recognize the resistance in many communities to large-format data centers whose massive power needs may undermine the overall interests of the local population,” Valania said. “We think a better alternative is a nationwide network of very small-format, low-power systems as nodes in a highly connected network configuration, generally following the approach known as ‘Edge computing.’”
Centcore, launched in 2024, provides colocation, cloud, and other data center services. The company announced last year that it would collaborate with financial services firm United Commercial Partners to develop a network of small facilities. Each Centcore Edge data center is expected to occupy between 5,000 and 10,000 square feet (465 to 929 square meters) and will be housed in existing structures that already have adequate power, water, and HVAC systems on-site.
Valania also highlighted the potential financial benefits for homeowners, noting that Centcore would “reach out to homebuyers that may see this as a value-add for the new homebuyers.” He explained that the incremental revenue generated by installing a Centcore Edge data center could be used to qualify for a mortgage or to cover other costs. Mitesco, in addition to its data center and digital infrastructure operations, also specializes in healthcare technology.
