KKR closes $19.2bn Global Infrastructure Investors V fund targeting data centers, energy, and AI infrastructure

By: IDCNOVARegion: Europe
Global investment firm KKR has closed its Global Infrastructure Investors V fund, securing $19.2 billion in total commitments to deploy across infrastructure assets, including data centers, energy systems, and other AI-related infrastructure. The fundraise marks one of the largest infrastructure vehicles closed in recent years, underscoring the accelerating demand for capital in sectors tied to digitalization and electrification.

The firm said it now manages approximately $120 billion in infrastructure equity, a dramatic increase from $13 billion in 2019. The V fund has already committed more than $9 billion to a range of investments spanning North America, Europe, and the Middle East. Notable portfolio companies include Altitude III, EDF Power Solutions North America, Enilive, Sempra Infrastructure, and The Parking Spot, alongside digital infrastructure plays such as Italian fiber network operator FiberCop, U.S. fiber-to-the-home builder Metronet, build-to-suit data center developer Global Technical Realty, and MENA colocation provider Gulf Data Hub.

The fund's strategy reflects a broader industry shift toward infrastructure assets that support the growth of AI, cloud computing, and energy transition. As hyperscale demand drives record levels of data center construction, investors are increasingly channeling capital into power generation, grid modernization, and digital connectivity projects that underpin the digital economy.

Brandon Freiman, head of North American Infrastructure at KKR, said: "Demand for infrastructure investment across North America continues to accelerate as digitalization, electrification, and industrial growth reshape the economy. Meeting that demand will require significant long-term capital, and we believe KKR is well positioned to partner with the businesses and asset owners investing in the infrastructure that will underpin the next phase of economic growth."

Vincent Policard, co-head of European Infrastructure at KKR, added: "Europe is entering a period where investment in critical infrastructure will play an increasingly important role in supporting competitiveness, energy security, and economic resilience. Having invested across the region for many years, we believe our local presence, global network, and long-term approach uniquely position us to work with businesses, communities, and public-sector stakeholders as these needs continue to grow."

The firm noted that the fund received backing from both new and existing investors, including pension plans, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies, asset managers, private wealth platforms, and family offices. With infrastructure investment increasingly viewed as a core allocation for long-term institutional capital, KKR's latest fund is expected to play a significant role in financing the next wave of critical infrastructure projects across multiple regions.
