Flexential secures $800M credit facility to fund 130MW US data center expansion

Flexential, a US-based data center facilities and solutions provider, has closed an $800 million credit facility, up from its initial $500 million target, to accelerate the expansion of its data center capacity across key US markets. The financing represents a 60 percent increase over the company's original goal and underscores the growing capital intensity of data center development in the current AI-driven infrastructure cycle.

The company said the credit facility will support more than 130MW of new capacity across the United States. This includes projects currently under construction, such as a 36MW campus in Atlanta-Douglasville, Georgia, a 36MW site in Portland-Hillsboro, Oregon, and a 22.5MW facility in Denver-Parker, Colorado. Flexential is also planning an additional 36MW site in Portland-Hillsboro and a 4.5MW expansion adjacent to its existing footprint in Atlanta-Norcross, Georgia.

The credit facility builds on Flexential's broader investment strategy to grow its presence in high-demand markets, as enterprises and cloud providers increasingly require dense, scalable and well-connected infrastructure. The company was formed in 2017 through the merger of Peak 10 and ViaWest, backed by investment firm GI Partners, and currently operates more than 360MW of capacity across more than 40 data centers in 18 US markets.

"We are collaborating closely with our customers and partners and making infrastructure investments today based on where we know they are growing," said Ryan Mallory, CEO of Flexential. "Our customers are planning years in advance, and they need confidence that the capacity, density and connectivity they'll need will be there when they're ready. This financing gives us the ability to invest ahead of that demand and deliver the infrastructure to support their growth."

The move highlights a broader trend among data center operators securing large-scale financing to pre-fund capacity development, as lead times for power, equipment and construction continue to lengthen. By locking in capital ahead of customer commitments, Flexential aims to reduce delivery risk and maintain momentum in markets where demand for high-density compute is rising sharply.
