Equinix Pushes Past $1 Billion in Active Texas Data Center Builds, Backs State Grid Standards

Equinix, Inc. has reaffirmed its support for Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s data center standards and state audit process, while announcing that more than $1 billion in active data center projects are currently underway across Texas. The company said it will continue to engage openly with the state to demonstrate the robust practices it has in place as it invests in building essential infrastructure and strengthening communities across Texas.

The announcement underscores Equinix’s deepening footprint in one of the nation’s most data-intensive markets. The company has invested more than $1.6 billion in Texas to date, with over $1 billion in additional projects now in active development to support expanding artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure needs. Equinix operates nine facilities across the state, including eight in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and one in Houston, and employs more than 800 Texans. Over the past year, the company welcomed more than 57,000 visitors, including customers and partners, through its Texas facilities, reflecting the scale of economic activity it generates for local businesses and communities.

Equinix’s flagship Dallas location at the Infomart is described as the most interconnected building in Texas, serving as a critical hub for the regional economy. The company’s Texas data centers support some of the state’s largest employers across virtually every sector, from aerospace and defense, oil and gas, manufacturing and airlines, to hospitals, universities, banks, government agencies, and public safety organizations. The infrastructure powers services Texans rely on daily, including financial systems, 911 call centers, and streaming platforms.

Equinix fully endorsed Abbott’s new data center standards and state audit process, highlighting its commitment to absorbing full grid connection costs, responsible water-cooling practices, and transparency. In Texas, the company pays the full cost of its grid infrastructure needs so costs are not passed to consumers, pursues water-responsible cooling practices, and partners with Dallas-area schools on technical education and career pathways. The company said it intends to continue leading in these areas as it expands its presence in Texas for decades to come.

The company’s support for the standards is grounded in its Community Principles, which guide its approach to every community where it operates. Equinix opened its first International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Dallas more than 25 years ago and has since expanded to nine facilities across the state.
