Empyrion Digital Tops Out Phase 1 of Maiden Data Center in Johor
Empyrion Digital, a Singapore-headquartered data center platform, has reached a significant construction milestone by topping out the first phase of its inaugural facility in Malaysia. The 40MW phase is part of a larger 200MW campus in Johor, marking the company’s entry into one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing data center markets.
The topping-out ceremony signals that the structural work for Phase 1 is complete, with the facility now expected to be ready for service in the first quarter of 2027. The timeline reflects a slight adjustment from the initially announced target of Q4 2026, according to the company’s LinkedIn post. The broader campus, known as MY1, spans 34.9 acres and is being developed in Nusajaya within Johor’s SiLC Industrial Cluster.
Empyrion has secured an initial power allocation of 145MW from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia’s national utility, with additional capacity expected through memorandums of understanding with green energy providers. This power supply arrangement underscores the project’s positioning as one of the largest green data center campuses in the country, designed to support hyperscale and enterprise workloads with a strong sustainability focus.
MY1 will be delivered in five phases, each with a capacity of 40MW. The campus will incorporate advanced liquid and air-cooled technologies, targeting a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of below 1.3 for liquid cooling and below 1.4 for air cooling—an efficiency profile that aligns with industry expectations for next-generation data center infrastructure.
Once fully completed, MY1 will become part of Empyrion Digital’s expanding regional platform, which already includes operational and development projects in Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, and Bangkok. The company is a portfolio holding of Seraya Partners, an Asia-focused infrastructure fund with approximately US$2.5 billion in assets under management.
The Johor campus reflects a broader trend of data center investment in Malaysia, driven by growing regional demand for cloud services and digital infrastructure. As hyperscale adoption accelerates across Southeast Asia, projects like MY1 are expected to play a key role in meeting capacity needs while advancing energy-efficient design standards in the region.
