Digital Edge Acquires Land for 270MW Data Center Near Mumbai, India

Asia-Pacific data center operator Digital Edge has acquired a roughly 30-acre land parcel in Palava, India, to develop a 270MW data center campus, marking another major expansion in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital infrastructure markets. The move underscores the rising demand for hyperscale capacity driven by AI and cloud adoption in India.

According to a report by The Economic Times, Digital Edge paid approximately Rs10 billion (around $104 million) for the land at the proposed Green Integrated Data Centre Park in Palava, located about 45 kilometers northeast of Mumbai. Lodha, the developer behind the data center park, confirmed the transaction in a press release on Friday, July 6.

Digital Edge, owned by New York-based private equity firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners, already operates or is constructing more than a dozen data centers across the Asia-Pacific region. The company broke ground on a 300MW campus in Navi Mumbai in 2024, and in February 2026, it signed an 83MW solar power purchase agreement with Hexa to power the first phase of its 350MW BOM campus in the same area.

The new 270MW project in Palava further strengthens Digital Edge’s presence in India’s Mumbai metropolitan region, which is emerging as a key hub for hyperscale data center development. The expansion reflects the broader industry trend of major operators securing large land banks and renewable energy capacity to support the energy-intensive workloads of AI and cloud computing.
