Asia-Pacific data center operator Digital Edge has acquired a significant land parcel near Mumbai, India, to develop a 270MW data center facility, marking another major expansion in one of the world's fastest-growing digital infrastructure markets.
The company purchased an approximately 30-acre plot at the proposed Green Integrated Data Centre Park in Palava, a city located about 45 kilometers northeast of Mumbai. According to a report by The Economic Times citing a person familiar with the development, Digital Edge paid around Rs10 billion (approximately $104 million) for the land.
Lodha, the developer behind the proposed data center park, confirmed the transaction had occurred in a press release on Friday, July 6. The deal underscores the intensifying competition for land and power in India's data center hub near Mumbai, where demand for cloud and AI infrastructure continues to surge.
Digital Edge, owned by New York-based private equity firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners, already operates or has under construction more than a dozen data centers across the APAC region. The company first announced plans for a 300MW data center campus in Navi Mumbai in January 2023 and broke ground on that project in 2024. More recently, in February, Digital Edge signed an 83MW solar power purchase agreement with Hexa to power the first phase of its 350MW BOM campus in Navi Mumbai.
The Palava acquisition further cements Digital Edge's commitment to the Mumbai market, which is emerging as a critical gateway for international connectivity and cloud services in India. Industry analysts note that the development aligns with the broader trend of hyperscale cloud providers and data center operators racing to secure large land parcels with access to reliable power and fiber connectivity in the region.
