DXN secures AU$12.2m contract to deliver containerized AI HPC data center to customer

Australian modular data center specialist DXN has landed a AU$12.2 million (US$8.7 million) binding contract to deliver a 2MW containerized high-performance computing facility for an unnamed "AI compute operator." The deal marks the company's second AI HPC award in as many months and a significant scale-up for its modular product line.

Under the turnkey agreement, DXN will handle the design, engineering, manufacture, delivery, installation, and commissioning of the complete 2MW AI HPC facility. The project combines newly built DXN modules with upgrades to existing on-site infrastructure. The customer's site is targeted to become operational in early calendar year 2027, though the company did not disclose the delivery location.

The contract underscores a growing trend in the data center industry where AI workloads demand rapid deployment of high-density GPU capacity, often outpacing the timelines achievable through conventional construction. DXN's modular approach is designed to meet that urgency, offering pre-fabricated pods that can be deployed faster than traditional builds.

Shalini Lagrutta, managing director of DXN, said in a statement: "This contract is a significant step forward for DXN. It is our second AI HPC award in as many months, materially larger than the first. This win demonstrates that the AI HPC module platform we have productised over the last three years is translating into wins across both offshore and domestic markets. Delivering 2MW of high-density GPU capacity on a single site is a meaningful uplift in scale for the product line."

She added: "This contract will result in 2MW of high-density GPU capacity, expected to be online inside the next 12 months. DXN has been selected because the requirement is one that conventional construction cannot meet within the timeframe. This is the first phase of a potentially larger deployment, and delivering this phase well places DXN in a strong position for future phases. We look forward to delivering the project and supporting future capacity requirements should they grow."

DXN has delivered more than 100 modular data centers to date, serving clients across mining, logistics, satellite communications, and other industries. Its customer base includes DP World, Anglo American, Newcrest, Stanmore Coal, Boeing, Covalent Lithium, Pilbara Minerals, and Globalstar. The company has also previously supplied modules for cable landing stations.

The latest win reflects a broader shift in the Australian data center market, where operators are increasingly turning to modular and containerized solutions to accelerate AI infrastructure delivery. With hyperscale demand for GPU compute rising sharply, modular offerings are emerging as a viable alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar facilities, particularly for edge and high-performance computing use cases where speed to market is critical.
