CtrlS Datacenters has signed a non-binding Letter of Intent to invest Rs 10,000 crore ($1 billion) in a new 150MW hyperscale data center in Bodh Gaya, located in the northeastern region of Bihar, India, marking a significant expansion of the company's footprint in the country's emerging digital infrastructure market.
The announcement coincides with the official inauguration of CtrlS's Rs 400-crore ($42 million) data center campus in Patna, Bihar, which was opened in the presence of Bihar's chief minister, Shri Samrat Choudhary. The Patna facility, which offers an initial 12MW of IT capacity, is designed to serve the growing digital infrastructure requirements of enterprises, government institutions, hyperscalers, and technology businesses across Bihar and Eastern India.
Sridhar Pinnapureddy, founder and CEO of CtrlS Datacenters, said the company is committed to strengthening Bihar's digital infrastructure and building a robust IT ecosystem through its future-ready data centers, which are designed to serve the evolving needs of hyperscalers, enterprises, and startups. He also expressed appreciation for the government of Bihar's efforts in creating a conducive policy environment, fostering an industry-friendly business climate, and providing attractive incentives that have supported the company's investment in the state.
Founded in 2007, CtrlS operates facilities that are live or in development across major Indian cities including Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Noida, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, with edge locations in Lucknow, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, and Patna. According to its website, the company is targeting 2GW of capacity by 2030. In June, CtrlS received investment from the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board to support the expansion of its data center network.
Pinnapureddy added that CtrlS, together with its ecosystem partners, is bringing significant investments into Bihar while creating new employment opportunities and contributing to the region's economic growth. He noted that the strong market potential and growing demand for digital infrastructure have reinforced the company's confidence in Bihar, and that the greenfield data center in Patna was established in response to this opportunity, further strengthening the state's digital infrastructure ecosystem.
The planned hyperscale facility at Bodh Gaya and the newly inaugurated Patna campus together signal CtrlS's broader ambition to capture rising demand for cloud and AI workloads in tier-two and tier-three markets across India, where hyperscalers and enterprises are increasingly seeking localized capacity to reduce latency and meet data residency requirements.
