Crusoe files for two more data center buildings at Goodnight Campus in Texas

Crusoe has filed for two additional data center buildings at its under-development Goodnight Campus in Claude, Texas, as the company accelerates the build-out of its AI-focused infrastructure portfolio across the state.

The new filings, submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, cover Buildings 3 and 4 at the campus located on Lima Road in Armstrong County, just east of Amarillo. Each facility carries an estimated construction cost of $500 million and will span approximately 805,380 square feet (74,822 square meters). Work on both buildings has already begun, with one reportedly completed this month and the other slated for completion by the end of the first quarter of 2027.

The Goodnight Campus, also known as Project Llano and filed under Crusoe affiliate GN DC1, LLC, is planned to come online in phases between August 2026 and February 2027. The site is set to include at least six single-story buildings, four of which will each span 805,380 sq ft, while two are designed to total 484,955 sq ft (45,054 sqm) each.

According to Aterio Research, the campus will ultimately feature seven buildings and deliver more than 1GW of capacity. The first phase will comprise four buildings and 530MW, while the second phase will add three buildings with 500MW. Total investment in the project is expected to reach $29 billion. Aterio suggests the development will mirror the company's Abilene campus in scale and design.

The expansion comes amid a period of rapid growth for Crusoe, which is also developing a 1.4GW data center campus in Childress, Texas, and operates the Abilene site that is being used by OpenAI. Additional capacity at the Abilene campus is set to be leased to Microsoft. In March of this year, a fire broke out near the Goodnight construction site, prompting a partial evacuation, though no significant delays have been reported.

Crusoe recently announced that it has contracted 4.9GW of AI infrastructure across its data center projects and Crusoe Cloud, with a total development pipeline exceeding 40GW, including contracted projects and sites under active tenant negotiation in advanced development. The new filings at Goodnight underscore the company's commitment to scaling its footprint in Texas, a state that has become a central hub for AI data center development due to its energy resources and business-friendly environment.

The rapid expansion of Crusoe and other hyperscale data center developers highlights the surging demand for compute capacity driven by AI workloads. As more companies race to secure power and land for large-scale facilities, projects like Goodnight Campus are expected to play a critical role in meeting the infrastructure needs of the AI era, while also raising questions about grid capacity, water usage, and local community impact.
