Reports of disruptions began surfacing from around 11:00 AM ET, according to user complaints and company status pages. OpenAI's status page noted "elevated errors across ChatGPT and Codex," while Anthropic reported that Claude, Claude Code, and the Claude API had gone down due to an undisclosed "infrastructure issue." Anthropic said the issue was largely resolved a little over an hour later, though its Opus 4.8 and Opus 5 models remained impacted. Meanwhile, xAI's Grok displayed an error message stating that "this model is overloaded right now. Please try again shortly or pick a different model."
The timing of the failures sparked immediate speculation about whether the outages were linked, or if a degradation in one service had driven a sudden surge in traffic to the others. Neither OpenAI, Anthropic, nor xAI has confirmed any connection between the incidents. Google's Gemini, by contrast, remained unaffected throughout the period, underscoring the uneven operational resilience across the sector.
