Cameroon’s ST Digital Inaugurates Data Center in Gabon’s Nkok Special Economic Zone

Region: Africa

Cameroonian data center operator ST Digital has officially opened its new facility in Gabon, marking a significant step in expanding digital infrastructure in Central Africa. The company announced the launch on LinkedIn on Friday, July 3, after breaking ground on the project in August 2025.

The data center is located in the Nkok Special Economic Zone, an industrial park situated near Gabon’s capital, Libreville. This strategic positioning places the facility within a key hub for economic development and trade in the region. The exact capacity and size of the data center have not yet been disclosed; ST Digital has been contacted for further details.

The entry of ST Digital into Gabon’s data center market comes at a time when the country’s data center landscape remains sparse. According to industry trackers such as Data Center Map and Baxtel, this facility would be Gabon’s first dedicated data center. However, Data Center Journal lists three existing data centers in Libreville, including the Gabon Internet eXchange and Airtel Gabon, indicating a nascent but emerging market.

ST Digital, headquartered in Cameroon, is a regional cloud services provider with a growing footprint across Central and West Africa. The company currently offers services in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Togo, Gabon, and Côte d’Ivoire. The new Gabon facility reinforces its strategy to extend cloud and data center capabilities to underserved markets, potentially boosting local internet connectivity, data sovereignty, and enterprise digital transformation.

The development highlights a broader trend of African data center operators expanding beyond their home markets to meet rising demand for colocation and cloud services. As more businesses and governments in the region digitize operations, investments in reliable, localized data infrastructure are becoming increasingly critical. ST Digital’s move into Gabon could also encourage further investment in the country’s digital economy, providing a foundation for future growth in sectors such as finance, telecommunications, and e-commerce.
