Amazon has signed four Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) in Sweden with French sustainable investment manager Mirova and Swedish renewable firm OX2, securing approximately 199MW of wind capacity to support its cloud operations in the Nordics. The agreements span four onshore wind farms across central and southern Sweden, reflecting the company's continued push to match its data center electricity consumption with renewable generation.
Three of the PPAs are tied to the Saena portfolio, a cluster of three onshore wind farms developed by Swedish renewable developer Eolus AB and acquired by Mirova last year. Under these agreements, Amazon will offtake 17.5MW from the Boarp wind farm in Jönköping Municipality, 18MW from the Dållebo wind farm in Ulricehamn, Västra Götaland County, and 31.5MW from the Fagelas wind farm in Västra Götaland, western Sweden. Combined, the three sites deliver 67MW to Amazon and are already fully operational.
The fourth PPA covers 132MW from the 189MW Fagerasen wind farm in Dalarna County. The project, developed by Eolus AB and Dala Vind AB, was acquired by OX2 AB last year and is currently under construction, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2028. Once complete, the Fagerasen site will be the largest single source of renewable power among the four agreements.
Amazon has operated a cloud region in Stockholm since 2018, and the company has backed several sustainability initiatives in Sweden, including a water replenishment project and a green steel partnership with SSAB. The new PPAs reinforce its broader strategy of aligning data center growth with long-term renewable energy procurement in the Nordics, a region prized for its abundant wind resources and favorable grid conditions.
The deal with OX2 builds on an established partnership between the two companies. In April last year, Amazon signed two PPAs with OX2 in Finland covering the entire capacity of the 367MW Rajamäenkylä wind farm in Isojoki and Karijoki municipalities and the 105MW Honkakangas wind farm in Halsua. In November, the pair added a 28MW PPA in Poland for power from the Annopol wind park in Lublin Voivodeship, which is expected to come online in 2027.
These agreements underscore the growing role of corporate off-takers in financing and de-risking renewable projects across Europe, particularly in markets where wind development is maturing. For Amazon, securing dedicated renewable capacity in Sweden helps it meet its climate commitments while supporting the energy-intensive demands of its data center footprint in the region.
