Adani Group Secures ~$800M Overseas Loan to Expand Data Center Business

By: IDCNOVARegion: South Asia
India's conglomerate Adani Group has obtained approximately $800 million in overseas loans from multiple international lenders to advance its data center expansion, according to people familiar with the matter. The financing was raised through AdaniConneX, a joint venture between Adani Group and EdgeConneX, the sources said, requesting anonymity as the information is not yet public.

The loan, with an 18-month tenor, carries an all-in funding cost of roughly 200 basis points over the Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR). Lenders include DBS Group, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, and Singapore-based Clifford Capital. The transaction marks one of the largest financing initiatives for the group since the resolution of related U.S. legal proceedings, signaling a gradual restoration of global investor confidence in the conglomerate.

Earlier this week, a federal district judge in New York permanently dismissed securities and wire fraud charges against founder Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani, closing a case that had cast a shadow over the energy-to-ports conglomerate since 2024. The legal clarity has helped reopen access to international capital markets for the group, which continues to invest heavily in digital infrastructure across India.

The funding underscores the strategic importance of data centers as a growth pillar for Adani Group, which is competing with global players to capture surging demand for cloud and AI-driven computing capacity in India. The joint venture with EdgeConneX has been at the forefront of building hyperscale data center campuses in key Indian metros, and the new credit line is expected to accelerate those deployment plans.

Industry analysts view the deal as a positive signal for the broader Indian data center financing landscape, where long-term capital requirements are rising alongside rapid digitalization. The involvement of major regional and international lenders also reflects growing appetite for structured credit exposure to India's infrastructure boom.
